Who am I? - Professional File
This may be a long page!
I didn't really take a great interest in the academic route and decided to jump straight in and start my own business at a young age. In fact if we go back far enough I think I was out DJ'ing from the age of 16. This inevitably lead into an interest in sound and electronics and, along with a friend ended up renting out sound systems that we would build ourselves (including speak cabinets!).
Whilst still keeping a very keen interest in all things sound related, in 1992 I launched Omega Electronics. Originially intended to service the electrical needs of a small ex-pat population on the west coast of Tenerife, little did I know that it would soon become quite a large setup including appointment of the distribution of Sharp, service centre for Sanyo and Canal+ along with much, much more! This kept me quite busy!
In 1995, and what seems completely by accident, I found myself building a prototype FM transmitter which I transferred to the roof of the workshop and left (illegally) rebroadcasting a well known UK radio station. After a few months this proved quite popular and Power FM was launched. As above, little did I know what was going to happen over the next few years!! Power FM flew from being a tiny (1w transmitter on a shoe box, seriously!) radio station into what was, when I sold the station in 2007, the largest British radio station in Spain. It was long hard job over those 11 years, but I had a great team with me all the way and a lot was acheived to get the station from where it started to where it was only a few years ago.
A lot happened in the 11 years, apart from Power FM. Easyweb Communications, an Internet design and Hosting company, is still going strong with clients worldwide and a dable in quite a few other businesses still trading.
In 2008 I returned to the UK, leaving the islands behind and, as many would put it, got myself a proper job! Through the experience and knowledge gained over the many years I was able to secure a job with the largest broadcasting company in the UK, Arqiva, where I am lucky enough to work with companies such as BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky and many others.
I have missed out loads of stuff, but I could go on for ages!
